Letter to Chaim — Fine Art

Letter to Chaim - 10.7.06 - 2006 shows broad painted shapes laid across a worked ground. The layers sit side by side and leave some of the surface visible. John Hoyland built this kind of abstract colour field painting with stacked paint and open areas between the bands.

In a narrow hallway with one light overhead, the painted bands catch the light at an angle. From the landing you see the colour blocks first, and nearer the floor you notice the gaps between them.
