Liberté

Loose brush sweeps run across the sheet in Liberté - Tachisme, building a layered field of thin colour passages. The marks read as quick gestures rather than a planned picture. Maria Helena Vieira da Silva worked in this way, letting paint stay open and uneven.

This fine art print sits inside a frame with a back panel, so the paper stays flat and the edges stay clean. The matte surface lets soft greys stay low key and keeps the brushwork from shining under a lamp.

It fits a reading corner wall above a small desk. From the chair you notice the broad paint sweeps first, then the thin lines near the bottom of the sheet.
