About this work
Light Gathers to the Question of No - 1979 shows a painted field made from many small strokes and dots. The marks gather into a loose shape, and the surface feels built up rather than flat. Richard Pousette-Dart worked in this way, laying colour over colour in repeated layers.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The frame finish can follow the room: a light finish on a dark wall, a dark finish on a pale wall, or a wood finish beside wooden furniture.
In an upstairs hall, the small strokes stay clear from the landing while the big shape reads from the stair. At the bathroom door you notice the layered surface first, then the slow build of the marks across the picture.
