Mariale — Fine Art

Mariale - Tachisme by Simon Hantai shows a surface covered in small dabs and streaks of pigment. The paint sits in loose patches across the paper. Simon Hantai worked with soaked paint and folded paper to make these kinds of marks.

The fine art version uses a matte paper that holds the paint tones without shine. A light frame on a dark wall makes the pigment patches stand out, and a dark frame on a pale wall keeps them soft. The print is ready to hang at a height where the dabs are easy to see.

It works above a dining table where the light hits the pigment patches from the side. From the chair you notice the small streaks and the way the paint stops and starts across the paper.
