About this work
Mercury Zero Summer Glut 1987 by Robert Rauschenberg uses the artist approach of mixing found material with painted surface. The work sits with the Combines and transfers that Robert Rauschenberg kept returning to.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. You see a layered ground where a printed element meets a drawn mark and the colours read as a summer brightness. The hanger on the back keeps the print level on the nail with no extra fitting.
The matte paper holds the greyer passages without a shine, so the lighter drawn line stays separate from the darker transfer area. It suits the landing hall near the front door, where you notice the layered marks as you pass and the thin line reads first at that distance.
