About this work
Modular Painting with Four Panels 6 1970 by Roy Lichtenstein puts four equal parts side by side on one sheet. Each panel holds flat colour shapes inside a heavy black outline, the kind of graphic look he used in pop art prints.
Move closer and you see the black borders between each panel and the plain background around them. The fine art print sits on a wall you pass every day. A light frame on a dark wall makes the outlined shapes stand apart from the paint behind it.
Hang it above a desk in the study where you work at the table. The desk lamp throws a soft glow on the flat colour, and the heavy outline picks up the light at the edge. You notice the four panels as you turn toward the page.
