About this work
Negativo-Positivo - 1989 shows two dark shapes facing each other against a lighter field. The marks read like a positive and a negative version of the same form. Bruno Munari worked with this kind of paired graphic exercise in his studies of visual perception.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface lets the two tones stay even and keeps the edges from catching a glare. The frame holds the sheet flat so the paired shapes stay together on the wall.
On a narrow hallway wall you notice the two shapes before anything else. The darker side pulls the eye first, then the lighter side settles behind it. From the stair landing the pair reads as one quiet mark split in half.
