Nightfall — Fine Art

Nightfall - 1994 opens on a broad painted area, the colour laid down in one steady move. The brush moves slowly, leaving a soft edge where the colour thins out. Ronnie Landfield works in colour field painting, building the sheet from large painted areas and a few slow strokes.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The paper is matte, so the light tones stay flat and the painted bands read without shine. A light frame can sit on a dark wall or a dark frame on a pale one.

It hangs in a dining room, at shoulder height on the wall beside the table. From the doorway the big painted area fills the view, and from the chair you notice the slow edge where one colour thins out.
