Ocean 1975 by Vija Celmins shows a surface that looks like water drawn with graphite on paper. The work uses many small marks to build a broad field of tone. There is no colour beyond white and grey.

This fine art print arrives ready to hang. A metal hanger is fitted to the back and goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed. The paper has a matte surface so the grey tones stay soft and do not shine back under lamp light.

The picture works well on a hallway wall where you pass it often. From the doorway the dark field hangs as a single shape. When you stop near the wall you notice the repeated pencil lines and the blank paper around them.
