Old Windfall

Old Windfall - 1982 follows the land and tree painting Neil Welliver worked on for years. The picture is built from broad strokes of green and brown across the paper. The surface holds the paint in layers, with darker areas beside lighter ones.

The print uses a fine art paper with a matte finish. Light does not bounce off the surface, so the greens read softly and the dark tones stay steady. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the picture quiet against the paint.

It fits a dining room wall near the corner. From the table you see the tree tones first, then the smaller shifts between the greens. The painting hangs at a steady height where you can pass it by on the way in.
