Onement I — Fine Art

Onement I shows a broad field of pale colour with a single narrow vertical band running down the middle. Barnett Newman made the mark stand out against the rest. At a short distance you see the edge of the band clearly.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. From farther away the two areas read as one flat shape. The white frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. That border keeps the vertical strip from blending into the wall.

You notice the band first when you stand near the picture. It works above the dresser in a bedroom. The pale ground stays quiet in the morning light, and the dark strip stays sharp on the far side.
