About this work
Orange and Lavender No. 72 - 1970 sets a warm orange field against a cooler lavender band. The two tones sit close and stay separate. The painted marks run across the surface in a steady rhythm. The picture by Adolph Gottlieb comes from his abstract painting practice.
The fine art print uses a matte paper that keeps the orange bright and the lavender dull rather than shiny. A light frame on a dark wall lets both colours read clearly. You see the painted marks plainly when you step nearer.
It works well on the wall beside a reading chair in a quiet corner. The orange band catches the evening lamp light while the lavender tone stays steady. From the doorway you notice the two colour areas before the small painted strokes.
