About this work
Phi by Morris Louis (1961)
A cascade of crimson and umber pours down raw canvas. Morris Louiss *Phi* unfolds like liquid light, unprimed linen drinking the pigment whole.
Thin rivulets of color bleed into one another, edges soft as watercolor yet weighty as oil. The vertical flow splits near the center, a quiet divide that never quite severs the harmony. No brushwork, no gesturejust gravity and acrylic, a slow dance of absorption.
Hang it where morning light grazes the wall, above a low credenza or beside a narrow hallway. The colors deepen with the day, never shouting, always present.
