About this work
Plate from Les Cantiques Spirituels - 1958 shows a small group of thin marks arranged on a pale field. The lines run close together and leave much paper open around them. Alfred Manessier made this group of plates as part of a post war French painting series.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The white frame gives the image a clean edge. The white finish sits close to the pale paper without changing the soft tone of the lines. A dark wood frame would set the plate apart more sharply.
On a narrow hall wall the big open space around the marks stays quiet. From the end of the corridor you see the whole plate as one pale group. Near the door the thin lines catch a little reflected light.
