Port de Cherbourg 1918 shows a coastal scene with boats, water and buildings set in broad colour areas. Henri Matisse worked with flat colour and clear shapes, a way of painting that leaves the picture open and direct.

This fine art print uses a matte paper so the flat tones stay even and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture can pick up the room instead of drawing it away from the picture.
