About this work
Portrait of Margaretha Trip, 1980- is a colour field painting with stained paint laid into an open field. Helen Frankenthaler worked with this soak stain method, letting thin paint spread into the ground. The picture holds broad colour shapes with quiet gaps between them.
This fine art print comes set in a frame with a back panel. The paper sits flat inside the frame, so the stained colour areas stay even and the open spaces do not fill in. You get a ready to hang piece when the assembly option is chosen.
It fits a study wall above a desk. From the door you see the large colour blocks first, and the thin edges of the stain only when you stand near the desk.
