Profiterole 1990 — Fine Art

Profiterole 1990 shows a rounded pastry shape rendered in soft cream tones. A darker edge runs along one side, leaving the rest in pale grey. The marks stay blunt, not decorative. Claes Oldenburg often worked with familiar food shapes, turning them into simple painted forms that look almost solid on the sheet.

The fine art frame finishes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A white edge keeps the cream tones open, while a dark wood edge gives the pale shape a firm border on the wall. The finished edge keeps the image from softening into the room.

A kitchen wall above the cooker works well. Daylight from the window falls across the pale shape. You see the blunt edge of the form against the darker band.
