Purtud, Bed of a Glacier Torrent by John Singer Sargent

The title Purtud, Bed of a Glacier Torrent points to a rushing alpine waterway over rough stones.

The scene uses broad paint strokes and cool tones, a method from John Singer Sargent outdoor practice. The fine art wall print keeps the surface matte so the cool grey and water tones stay flat without shine under a lamp.

You see the working strokes best from the side. A dark frame sits on the pale hallway wall near the top of the stairs, where the cool water tones read against the warm wood steps.
