Recueillement nocturne II - 1952 shows a quiet scene from a post war French painting tradition. The surface holds broad colour areas with free mark making, in the manner of abstract watercolour technique.

This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the pale watercolour washes soft, so the greys do not shine under a lamp.

It fits a stairwell landing, where the steps meet the wall near the newel post. From the bottom step you see the big colour areas move upward. Up the stairs you notice the thin pencil lines crossing the sheet. At the landing you read the quiet marks one by one.
