Red — Fine Art

Red - 1966 by Thomas Downing shows a field of red paint laid across the sheet. The colour builds in soft bands that shift as you move past the wall. From the landing you see the broad red shape holding the space.

The fine art frame finishes in white, wood, dark wood or black. Each finish gives the picture a clean edge so the red field stays separate from the plaster. A dark wood frame lets the red sit deeper against a pale hallway wall.

It reads well on the landing wall above the stairs. From the kitchen door you notice the red band first, then the frame edge, then the plain plaster around it. The picture holds its place without filling the whole wall.
