About this work
Red, White, and Brown - 1957 sets three broad painted bands on the sheet. The upper tone leans warm, the middle stays pale, and the lower field runs darker. Mark Rothko works within post war American abstraction, painting colour as a quiet field rather than a picture of something. The brushwork stays blurred where the tones meet.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print sits on matte paper, so the lighter band does not reflect a lamp and the pale tones keep their depth.
It works on the wall in a dining room, hung a little above a chair rail where the three bands read from the table. The pale middle band stays soft under the room light, and the darker lower band settles the wall.
