About this work
Relational Painting - 1951 by Fritz Glarner uses hard edge bands and flat colour to build a geometric abstraction. The bands sit next to each other with clear boundaries. The painting keeps its shapes separate through careful alignment.
The finish is a fine art print on matte paper, so the flat colour stays even under indoor light. A light frame on a dark wall lets the painted bands read as clean blocks, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture keeps the room simple.
It works on a hallway wall where you pass by at a normal pace. You see the straight edges and the separation between bands without stopping, and the shapes hold their place as you walk past.
