About this work
Rue du Singe Qui Pech - 1921 shows a quiet street scene drawn with careful pencil lines. Buildings, windows and narrow pavement sit in a calm arrangement. The drawing uses measured strokes and a measured grey tone. Charles Demuth worked in this measured way, often choosing town views and leaving the surface plain.
The fine art print sits in a frame with a white, wood, dark wood or black finish. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall and holds the drawing in place. The matte surface keeps the grey tones soft and stops glare under a lamp.
It works on a bedroom wall above a desk. From the bed you see the street lines and the window blocks, and from the doorway the frame edge reads against the plaster.
