Sail I — Fine Art

Sail I by Sam Francis carries open colour washes across a white field. The marks look like wind pushing against a sail, with thin lines and soft patches of paint moving across the paper. The image keeps a loose feel, as if the paint was laid down in quick passes.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. Sam Francis worked with thin washes and open space in his abstract paintings. The frame in white gives the picture a clean edge on the wall.

You see the colour first, then the frame line at the side. Above a kitchen sink the bright washes catch morning light on the left side. From the stove you notice the thin lines, and the white frame sets them apart from the tile wall.
