About this work
Saint-Julien-des-Chazes - 1895 shows a small church village set among trees, painted with visible brush strokes in green and blue bands.
The marks press hard in places and soften in others, a method Armand Guillaumin used for the Creuse river landscape and other scenes of that region. The fine art print keeps those rough painted strokes clear.
A light frame on a dark wall lets the green bands stand apart and the wall stays calm behind it. It works above the kitchen sink where the morning light falls on the blue water band and the rough paint reads plain from the chair by the table.
