About this work
Sandstorm, 1992- by Helen Frankenthaler shows a broad field of thin paint laid over an open ground. The marks read as broad sweeps rather than hard lines. You can see the edge of each band where the paint thins out.
The fine art frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black. A clean frame edge keeps the broad paint bands from running off the surface. The white finish keeps the open ground visible, while a wood finish gives the sweeps a firmer stop.
In a hallway with a steady strip of daylight, the sweeps read as one wide band from the far end. Near the corner you see the thinner paint and the open areas between the bands. The picture stays calm there, with the frame edge marking where the image ends.
