About this work
Sister Sky, 1991- shows a wide open field with a softly stained band of colour drifting across it. The surface holds thin washes that settle into the sheet. Helen Frankenthaler used this soak stain method to let pigment move into the paper and leave an uneven edge where the colour thins out.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. You can put it on the wall as it comes, and the matte surface keeps the washes from catching a bright lamp.
On a long dining room wall, the broad colour band reads from the doorway before the thin edges do. Standing at the table, you notice the uneven stain line where the wash ends.
