About this work
Sky Light 1973 shows a bright patch of dabs arranged in loose bands. Alma Woodsey Thomas built her colour field paintings from small painted strokes laid in rows. The picture reads as a wide field of colour with short marks set beside each other.
Sunlight in a reading corner can wash the lighter strokes into a soft glow. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the pale band clear, and a wood frame beside bookshelf wood feels at home there. The fine art print is made on matte paper, so the colour stays flat under a lamp.
Hang it on a hallway wall near the front door, where you pass by and notice the band of marks as you leave. The small strokes catch the eye from a short distance without asking you to stop.
