Sleeping Beauty — Fine Art

A sleeping woman rests in a calm dark room, her face turned toward the viewer. The picture uses broad colour bands and clear outlines, a style tied to mid century American illustration. Eyvind Earle built many images on this flat, graphic method.

The fine art print sits on a pale wall at a steady height, with light from the direction of the room falling across the shapes. A light frame on that pale wall keeps the dark ground from fading, and the matte paper holds the deep tones without shine.

In a bedroom, the picture reads from the doorway as a quiet dark patch behind the bed. You notice the smooth line of the figure and the soft edge between the colour bands before you step closer.
