About this work
Southern Exposure - 2005 shows a wide field of poured colour across the sheet. Helen Frankenthaler let the wash spread into the paper with thin edges. The marks run in long ribbons that stop where the paint runs out.
A fine art frame in white or black gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. The dark finish sits tight against the light field so the colours hold their own shape.
On the stairwell landing the big colour field reads first. From the landing you see the soft bands and the thin paint lines at the ends.
