About this work
Steek 1 - 2005 by Ralston Crawford shows a hard edge composition built from sharp bands of paint. The eye enters on the upper left and rests on the heavy dark shape near the bottom. Empty space holds the picture together.
The print is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. With the ready to hang option, it arrives assembled. The flat paint bands need a matte surface so the dark tones stay even and the light tones do not glare. The back panel keeps the sheet flat on the wall.
It sits above the kitchen table where the morning window throws a soft band of light. You notice the sharp edges of the colour blocks while you wait for the kettle. The dark lower shape holds the eye as you turn away.
