Still Life on Corner of a Mantelpiece 1914 — Fine Art

A row of objects rests on a mantel shelf in Still Life on Corner of a Mantelpiece 1914.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. Brush marks press and lift across the painted surface, leaving soft edges where the paint thins out. Vanessa Bell often worked in loose strokes and clear colour patches in her still lifes.

The black frame gives the picture a firm edge on the wall, and the dark border holds the painted forms together without softening the brush lines. It fits well on a bedroom wall near a low bed, where the small painted objects sit calmly above a wooden bedside table.
