About this work
Stop Side Early Winter Glut 1987 by Robert Rauschenberg rests on the page as a mixed field of marks and transfers. Rough brushed strokes sit next to faint printed shapes. The surface feels worked over, with traces of paint, ink and paper layered together.
The work comes from the combines practice that Robert Rauschenberg built over many years. A fine art print copies this layered surface without adding shine. The flat matte finish keeps the grey and off white tones soft under room light.
The frame finish can follow the room: a light frame on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. It fits a study wall above a desk. From the chair you see the broad shapes first, and the smaller transfer marks only when you lean in.
