Study — Fine Art

Study - 1969 shows a field of folded colour on paper. The artist worked across the sheet and pushed the paint into soft ridges and dips. Simon Hantai made these cloth paintings by moving and lifting the material before it dried. The fine art print lets you see those folds without any shine on the surface.

The frame can match the room, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame near wooden furniture. That choice lets the print sit with the rest of the room without drawing the eye away from the painted surface.

In a bedroom near the bed the folded colour bands show their changes in tone from across the room on a pale wall. From the doorway you see the deeper folds first, then the lighter paint lines on the paper.
