Study for Black Ripe — Fine Art

Study for Black Ripe shows a solid black shape against a plain lighter ground. The black field covers most of the picture and stops at a sharp edge. A small open area remains on one side. Ellsworth Kelly built this kind of work with flat colour and clear borders.

This fine art print uses a matte surface so the black stays even and does not shine under a lamp. The frame finish can follow the room, with a dark frame on a pale wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture.

It fits above a chest of drawers in a bedroom. From the foot of the bed you see the big dark shape first. Closer to the wall you notice the hard border where the black ends.
