About this work
A sugar bowl with lemons rests on a table, the bowl painted in short strokes that follow the curve of the ceramic. Pierre-Auguste Renoir uses broken colour touches across the bowl and fruit. The oils try to catch the sheen on the lemons and the pale glaze inside the bowl.
A fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel, ready to hang when the option is chosen. The matte paper keeps the pale yellow of the lemons and the cream of the bowl without shine under a lamp.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, the yellow lemons catch the morning light first. From the doorway you notice the bowl shape and the cluster of fruit, while close up the short strokes and the edge of the frame come into view.
