About this work
White planes press into the bed of the sheet in Superficie bianca - 1969. The raised rows read as a quiet field of shallow relief at a distance.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. From a nearby chair each row shows a soft shadow on the ridge. Enrico Castellani worked the paint into the surface to make these parallel traces. The print keeps that pressed surface on matte paper, so the white stays even and the rows hold their depth.
A white finish frames the picture and sets a clean line against the pale ground. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. It fits on a kitchen wall near the sink, where the morning light hits the ridges and the white frame stays out of sight.
