About this work
The Blind Leading the Blind 1949 shows two dark figures side by side, one reaching toward the other. The shapes sit against a muted tone that keeps the scene quiet. Louise Bourgeois built the picture through her usual practice of drawing and printmaking, where the figure and the space stay balanced.
The fine art print hangs on a wall where the room finish can follow the space. A light frame on a dark wall gives the tones room to sit without fighting the paint. The surface stays matte, so the softer areas do not reflect light under a lamp.
It goes on the stairwell wall where the steps turn and the eye catches the figures as you pass. From the landing you see the two forms together, and the darker shape leans toward the lighter one.
