The Cliffs 1921 by Thomas Hart Benton shows rolling land shapes crossing the sheet. Warm earth tones sit beside pale sky tones. The painted forms move in a steady rhythm across the whole picture. Benton kept to these broad shapes and simple tones through much of his work.
