About this work
The Key to the Fields 1936 shows a painted scene from the surrealist painting practice, with a few solid forms set across a plain painted field. Rene Magritte built his work in oil on canvas, using flat colour areas and clear outlines.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and each finish gives the picture a clean edge on the wall.
In a kitchen, you see the big painted shapes from the counter and notice the flat colour areas as you pass by. On a hallway wall, the simple outlines hold the eye at the end of the passage. The scene stays calm at that distance, with the frame edge marking where the image ends.
