About this work
The King I 1962 by Lenore Tawney sits on the wall as a woven panel with vertical threads. The surface holds a soft brown tone and a few darker streaks where the fibres cross. Lenore Tawney worked with linen and cotton in the mid twentieth century, and the picture follows that practice of building form from thread.
The fine art print comes ready to hang. The frame finish can follow the room around it. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the linen tones visible, while a wood frame beside wooden furniture adds a plain outline.
It fits a reading corner above a bookshelf, where the vertical strands line up with the spines. From the chair you see the slow rhythm of the threads, and the darker crossings catch the eye without pulling it away.
