The Prey — Fine Art

The Prey by Hans Hofmann shows broad painted areas that push and pull across the sheet. Strong colour planes sit near each other, with one mark pressing forward and another stepping back. The work belongs to the push and pull painting practice that runs through his later years.

The fine art version comes in a white frame, a wood frame, a dark wood frame or a black frame. Each finish gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A white frame keeps the pale parts of the colour field open.

It works on a kitchen wall near the sink, where morning light comes from the side. From the table you see the big colour bands first, and the small brush marks only when you stand closer.
