About this work
A painted gap sits in the middle of a plain field. The Silver Gap 1926 uses flat colour areas to hold a clear open space against the rest of the picture. Rene Magritte worked in a surrealist painting practice with simple painted forms and calm grounds.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the print a clean border that fits the open space inside the image. A wood finish keeps the edge warm against the grey field. Dark wood or black sets the border apart so the gap stays clear on the wall.
On a study wall the plain band reads first from the desk. The small marks near the edge draw the eye in before you turn away. You notice the calm field and the single open line.
