About this work
The Snail 1953 shows a set of coloured squares arranged in a loose spiral on a plain ground. The eye follows each shape to the next one, and the order changes as you move across the room.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall, so the squares do not drift into the wall itself. A black frame would sharpen the line between the coloured blocks and the ground.
Above a low desk the big shapes read from the doorway, while the small gaps between them show up when you step closer. The light stays even on a matte surface, and the spiral reads as a slow turn rather than a quick sweep.
