About this work
The Station of the Cross - Sixth Station by Barnett Newman shows a broad field of one colour with a sharp vertical band cutting through it. The eye enters at the band, then rests on the wide colour around it. Much of the surface stays empty.
This fine art piece uses a matte paper so the single tone stays even and the frame edge stays clear. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood or black, and that edge keeps the broad field from fading into the wall.
Hang it in a bedroom on the wall beside the bed. From the chair you notice the vertical band first, then the quiet colour behind it. The room feels steady without needing much else.
