The True Painting of the Isle of the Dead by Arnold B%c3%b6cklin at the Hour of the Angel

A lone island rises from still water while dark trees line the shore. Light comes from the ground up, so the pale sky stays cool against the brown shore.

The painting draws on a long tradition of dream paintings made by Salvador Dali. The fine art print keeps those slow shifts in tone without the shine that scrubs out shadow detail.

Hang the print on a hallway wall near a baseboard lamp. From the turning point you see the island and the water first, then the thin trees at the top edge.
