About this work
A musician sits inside a room with a window behind him in The Violinist at the Window 1918. Henri Matisse draws the figure with clear black lines and leaves much of the paper empty around him. The window gives a thin band of light at the back and the eye rests on the hands and the instrument first.
This fine art print is ready to hang on arrival. The sheet arrives ready to hang with a metal hanger on the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed.
It fits above a plain desk in a study, set at eye level from the chair. From across the room you see the black line of the violin and the window strip. Up close the loose pencil shading in the shadows shows through.
