About this work
Tool Box 2 1966 repeats a simple tool shape in a tight series of painted marks. Jim Dine often turned everyday objects into repeated studies of line and colour. The forms sit close together, so the eye moves from one mark to the next without stopping.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The flat sheet lays against the wall, so the repeated shapes read as one group.
On a hallway wall near a coat hook, the repeated tool forms break up the long stretch of plaster. You notice the small differences between each mark as you pass by.
