About this work
A worn metal box sits at the centre of Tool Box 4 1966, set against a plain ground. The lid is open, and the handle runs along the top edge. Jim Dine painted everyday tools and objects in a personal way, often as a kind of self portrait.
The fine art print sits inside a frame in white, wood, dark wood or black. The frame gives the picture a clear edge on the wall. A white frame keeps the background light, while a dark wood frame lets the metal tones stand out.
It reads well on a kitchen corridor wall where the light stays steady. From the corner by the fridge you see the simple outline of the box first, then the small marks on the lid.
