About this work
Townscape 1969 0 shows a skyline built from soft bands of paint. The buildings lose their hard edges and blur into the grey air above them. Gerhard Richter worked with a squeegee to lay these sweeping layers over one another. The surface reads like a photograph fading out.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the grey tones even when light hits the sheet at an angle.
It fits on a landing wall where the stairs turn. From the bottom step you see the broad bands of the townscape, and near the top the small shifts in the paint layer become clear.
